Caribbean Business: Botter- Aquatic Wear

WHY IT’S WORTH KNOWING ABOUT

A high-end menswear made with the Caribbean couture spirit, BOTTER is internationally recognized for its distinct notion of luxury. BOTTER is known for its innovative designs with bold colors, iconic silhouettes, and an eclectic mix of fabrics and textures. At BOTTER, the motto is simple “creating something from nothing”. From Curaçao to Paris, BOTTER has made its way to the world of luxury clothing brands. Today, the brand has gained a solid international reputation for its unique and playful approach to menswear and its commitment to sustainability.

Based in Paris, BOTTER is a proud Caribbean business that exclusively draws inspiration from the rich Caribbean Ocean. All the collections are a reflection of nautical designs and sustainable ethos. BOTTER roots for the ocean’s health and engage in speaking up and acting for the Caribbean sea. One of the great examples of the brand’s care for nature is the Botter Coral Nursery. This is an organization that actively works on reviving the coral reef in Curaçao. They work in collaboration with a local diving company called Curious 2 Dive. Together, their mission is to fight against the global bleaching problem of the coral reefs through fashion. In addition to ocean conservation, the brand commits to using technology and new materials that are nature friendly. BOTTER firmly believes in designing for the future in collaboration with nature.

BOTTER has in hand some of the most prestigious prizes in the fashion industry. In 2018, they won the Hyères Festival Grand Prize. Then, BOTTER went on to win the prestigious French fashion industry's Andam Grand Prize in 2022. The brand has pledged that the money prize will be spent on developing bio textiles and managing Botter Coral Nursery, the coral farm in Curaçao.

Called The Plastic Sea, BOTTER’s latest collection, Summer-Spring 2023, pays homage to Mother Earth through oceanic references. The collection features a mix of aquatic prints and streetwise pocket-laden outerwear, colored with the brand’s signature vibrant turquoise hue in reference to ocean conservation. Furthermore, the new collection is armed with interesting innovations with the use of kelp textile mixed with cotton to comprise tactile knitwear, often paired with an upcycled bicycle seat repurposed as a cross-body bag. This shows the commitment of the brand to cleaning up the world.
